How to choose a puppy?

The choice of a dog is a difficult task. You have to ask yourself a few basic questions:

5. How much time can we spend with our dog every day?
6. Are other household members going to take care of it?

If you like Hovawarts you should realize that they are rather distrustful of strangers. They have strong territorial instinct. While training them we can’t break their character, forcing them to do something. Their character is rather delicate in comparison with German Shepherd. You can’t shout at Hovawart – it will get you nowhere, however they will do everything for its prize of treat. Moreover you have to know that love and affection to the family are huge. These are dogs of one master, which does not mean that they will not listen to other household members. The Hovawart dogs are more difficult in breeding than Hovawart bitches. You have to be consequent managing them. Since they are very intelligent, they will use every opportunity not to obey you. Therefore if you have never had a dog before it will be easier to take a bitch. Hovawarts bitches are very keen on caresses and they are nicer. There is another difference between Hovawarts and German Shepherd. Hovawarts are not absorbing dogs. They have great intuition, if we don’t want to play with them they will simply lay down and let us relax. Traveling by car with them is a pleasure. There is no whining, so characteristic for German Shepherd. Sometimes I wonder if I took them with me to my car at all. They love walking and trainings, but these are a things that most dogs love. I believe that Hovawarts should be trained. Trainings reinforce the bonds with the dog and it is nice when the dog obeys you. Moreover it is a great fun.
